Sad to report that we lost Laurie Ramsay on Oct. 27/09 due to many complications from juvenile diabetes. In spite of her many challenges, including blindness by her mid-twenties, Laurie always remained positive and cheerful. Laurie completed her Masters degree in Social Work not long after losing her sight and worked for many years in that field. More recently, she published a book “The Southenders” about the people and history of the south end of Nanaimo where she was born and always lived. I believe it was Francis Bugnon who dubbed her La Petite Camion. We will miss her great spirit and her smile. Laurie literally passed away in the arms of her husband, Jim Robertson – she would not have asked for more than that.
